Managing workspaces

The Admin → Workspaces tab is where you create, name, and delete the access groups inside your tenant. For the underlying model (what a workspace is, how membership works, why you'd use them) read Workspaces explained first. This page covers the tab's mechanics.

The list#

Each row is one workspace, showing:

  • Name - the label you gave it.
  • Description - optional; freeform.
  • Users - count of how many users are members.
  • Devices - count of how many devices are assigned to it.
  • A trash icon for delete (hidden on the default workspace - see below).

The counts update on the next page refresh after you make changes elsewhere.

Creating a workspace#

Click New workspace in the top right. The dialog asks for:

  • Name - required. Make it descriptive of the team or purpose ("QA team", "Staging fleet", "Customer X").
  • Description - optional. A short note for future-you about what this workspace is for.

Click Create and it appears in the list immediately. The workspace starts with zero users and zero devices - assign them from the Users and Devices tabs respectively.

Assigning users and devices#

Workspace membership isn't managed on this tab - it's managed on the rows of the things you're assigning:

  • Add or remove devices → Admin → Devices → toggle the workspace chips on each device row.
  • Add or remove users → Admin → Users → toggle the workspace chips on each user card.

Both flows are covered in Managing devices and Inviting users.

Changes take effect immediately - affected users see their device list update on the next refresh of the Devices page.

Deleting a workspace#

The trash icon removes the workspace. A confirmation dialog warns that device and user assignments are removed; the devices and users themselves are not deleted. They remain in the tenant and can be assigned to other workspaces.

The default workspace (created when your tenant was provisioned) doesn't have a trash icon - it's protected so you always have at least one workspace in the tenant.

A few habits worth picking up#

  • Don't over-split early. If you only have one team, one workspace is enough. Add more when you actually need the separation.
  • Remember unassigned devices are admin-only. A device with no workspace assignments is invisible to every non-admin user. If you create a new workspace, also make sure to assign at least one device to it, or the users you put in it will see an empty Devices page.
