Managing devices

The Admin → Devices tab is the master list of every device leased to your tenant. Devices arrive here ready to use - this tab is where you decide who in your organization can see each one.

How a device gets here#

After you subscribe (or increase your device count), we prepare devices from our pool and assign them to your tenant - typically within several hours. They show up in this list already provisioned and online. See How leasing works.

The device-limit counter#

The Leased devices: X / Y card at the top of the tab shows:

  • Y - the number of devices your subscription pays for.
  • X - how many have actually been assigned to you so far.

While X < Y, the card tells you how many are still being prepared. Once they match, your whole entitlement is assigned. Adjust Y from the Subscription tab.

No subscription? A warning banner appears and no devices are leased. Subscribe to get a fleet.

Name, tags and workspaces#

  • Name - yours to set. Type one and it becomes what everyone in your organization sees for that device, everywhere in the console. Leave it empty and the device shows its model and the last part of its identifier instead.
  • Tags - up to three short labels per device: lowercase letters, digits, - and _, 20 characters each. They are shared across your organization, and the same tags appear on the device panel, where your users can add and remove them too. Use them for things the whole team needs to know about a device - qa, loaner, broken-screen. The search box matches them.
  • Workspaces - chips you toggle to control which workspaces can see this device. A device with no workspaces selected is only accessible to tenant admins; otherwise, any user with access to one of the selected workspaces can use it. See Workspaces explained for how the model works.

Make the edits you want, then click Apply - the name, tags and workspaces on a card all save together. Use Discard to throw away pending edits on a single device. Only cards with unsaved changes show an active Apply button, so you can tell at a glance what's pending.

Online and offline#

The chip on each card tells you whether the device is currently reachable:

  • Online - the device is up and reporting.
  • Offline - the device is temporarily unreachable. We monitor leased devices and restore them automatically. If a device stays offline for long, contact support.

Device lifecycle#

Leased devices are always on. There is nothing to enable or disable, and you can't delete or reprovision them yourself:

  • If a device misbehaves, contact support and we'll repair or replace it.
  • When a device needs maintenance, it may be pulled from your fleet and a replacement assigned. Your admins are notified when that happens.
  • When your subscription ends, leased devices are returned to the platform automatically. Your workspaces and users are untouched.

Searching and filtering#

The toolbar above the list has a search box that matches against name, tag, model and UDID, a Refresh button, and a visible / total counter on the right so you know whether your search has narrowed the list.
